I have a love/hate affair with this polkadot dress. It's a tad bit short for me to wear as a dress and I better wear a bodycon skirt underneath if I don't want any Marilyn moments. On the other hand it is really cute. While deciding if I was going to throw it out it suddenly hit me. "I can totally tuck it in my jeans!" I thought. I love how it looks and if I find a way to hem the sheer fabric, I might just turn it into a top. Any tips on how to do this?
I got an email from a curious reader who wanted to know what it was that I got for the boyfriends birthday last week. We all know how the love of a man goes through his stomach, right? So I thought I'd give him a Vivabox that he could spend on a dinner (for two, ofcourse!) with Spanish tapa's! He loved it and is now trying to get me to cook some of the tapa's that are in the little cookbook that came with the box. I am not a kitchen princess at.all. so I hope I don't get him sick or something, haha. Wish me luck!
XO Nikki

I really don't know how to shorten a dress, but I know the problem you have: there are so many things that are/should be dresses, but look like a tunique on me... well... And I also already wore one as a top!

I'm digging the Hannah Montana reference
ReplyDeletePretty polka dots...love em!
ReplyDeleteyou look darling... as usual :)
ReplyDeleteThe polka dot dress turned into a top is so cute, I love the purple cardi too. I don't know how to hem it though, I usually just tuck it under and then safety pin it.
ReplyDeleteI love how you wore that polka dot dress as a top. It looks so pretty with the purple cardigan!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It's very cute as a top and looks great with the purple!

Cute! Glad you kept it, it looks great as a top with this purple cardi :)
ReplyDeleteGOod luck with the tapas!
I love redefining garments like this!
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable :)
I wish I had some tips on hemming for you! I'm looking to buy a sewing machine soon so I can learn to mend and alter a few of my own dresses.
I took some dresses up using bondaweb, its like tape that you put between two layers or fabric, give it a good iron, and voila, they are stuck together.
ReplyDeleteThe scariest bit is cutting it to the size you want, I think I used a 1.5cm hem so you have to allow 3.5 cm (the extra 0.5 so you can tuck that in, otherwise it might start fraying).
I hope that makes sense, if not message me back or leave a comment on my blog www.lucyslilworld.blogspot.com and I will try and help more :)

I love how you turned the dress into a top by tucking it into your jeans! It looks wonderful. Although I can sew, I generally take most of my garments to a tailor to get altered. It's worth it, especially if it is something you really love.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and really lovely look! Polka dots are always a winner!
ReplyDeleteHope Kenneth will enjoy preparing tapas for you! A good present for yourself too! :)
Entirely different topic: I was thinking about you when I heard of the bus tragedy... So sad... You're so kind to remember them in a post.
Love the polka dot dress (shirt)! :) It's fun remixing clothes. Makes you feel like you own more.
ReplyDeleteThe easiest way to hem sheer fabric is to hand sew it by using a 'whip stitch'. It's very easy. Writing about it will probably confuse you, but there are excellent videos on youtube showing the process. <3

looove the polka dots. you always look so darling hun! sometimes I'll wear a dress as a top if it's too short or what-not too, then you don't have to throw it away! way to rework your closet :) love it all!

Ik vind polkadots super schattig, vind het wel een goed idee van je om het jurkje in je blouse te stoppen, ziet er echt goed uit! En wat een leuk verjaardagscadeau voor je vriend, ben benieuwd naar het keukenavontuur :D !
ReplyDeletePolkadots never get old, do they :)
ReplyDeleteLove,

What a fantastic post title! Love the polka dots.
ReplyDeleteIt does look totally cute as a top! I'd say your best bet is to take it to a professional, chiffon is not an easy fabric to work with.

I've actually tried on this very same dress at Forever21! I liked it quite a lot, as well, but it was awfully short...it looks lovely as a blouse though ♥
ReplyDeleteI always find Forever 21 dresses come up really short, especially after you wash them a couple times! :( I loved the way you styled it as a top though, and that cardigan is just the most perfect colour! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is soooooo cute. I always love polka dots, but right now I'm definitely on a huge dot kick.
ReplyDeleteI love the polka dot dress as a top. It totally works with this outfit.
