Work It! - What I would wear to my job

Wearing: DEPT dress // Essentiel bag // Twice as Nice earrings

I've been getting a few questions about work wear so I thought I'd show you something I'd wear to a day of meeting clients as a social worker. I am starting my last bachelor year next monday (yikes!), so I don't have a "real" job yet, but we do have internships. As an intern you pretty much have carte blanche. I've had an office job at an elderly home last year, and i'll have another office job this year. As an intern you pretty much have carte blanche, but there are a few rules you might want to follow up on. The basic rule is to dress so that you look approachable. People should feel at ease around you because you are their counselor and guide and you are the one they have to tell all about themselves and their life. So in contrast to a lot of classic offices black and grey are not the best options when you are meeting clients. You can wear these colours to meet the big chief though. There are the obvious rules like: no cleavage, no short skirts/shorts and no stilletto's and thirdly: you have to radiate personality. This actually alignes with the first rule. Your appearance is a big part of the impression you make on others. I try to look inviting by wearing a smile all the time (not when discussing serious problems, ofcourse) and I try to colourfull. This dress is the perfect work dress for me. It's long enough, and with a tank top the cleavage isn't too bad. The fun leaf print and marine blue colour make the look more soft than an all black two piece suit. I wasn't working when we took these photos, so that's why I'm wearing my pretty heels, but I can easily switch to a pair of flats for the office.

The Big Bang Theory just ended, so that means I have to wrap this post up. I promised Kenneth we'd play Call Of Duty together. I'm going to K-I-C-K H-I-S A-S-S!

Have a good one folks!

PS: What's with the invisible cellphone in the second picture?

  3. Hmmm, I never thought about what you would want to wear as a social worker before, but these all make sense. They are kind of the same rules for teachers too!

    Very cute outfit, btw.

  4. i love this look for work. i always pair fun dresses with cardigans, or blazers for something a little more upscale. it also totally depends on your industry - if i looked too professional in an interview it could be bad as it shows im not creative enough. anyhow - LOVE that bag. and i love that you play games with your man - i'm going home to a night of guild wars 2 with my hubby

  6. AWESOME! I used to play call of duty with my ex all the time... I think that's one of the only things I miss about that relationship.. lol
You work outfit is great. It's neat that you have to think about what colours you're wearing and what it says about you. Kind of fun :)

  8. I love that "radiate personality" rule. It's brilliant and I am definitely going to keep that in mind. I hope your last year is amazing and that you beat Kenneth at COD. I believe in you.

And now I'm going to watch The Big Bang Theory. Haha.

  9. You look so pretty and professional! That dress looks great on you. I'm loving your bag too. I need one like that! I'm going to have to wear professional clothes one of these days. I can't say I'm looking forward to it too much. But at least I can wear pretty dresses. I don't think the no stilletto rule applies in the states though. I'm pretty sure business-y people wear those all the time haha

  16. Totally adorable. I teach five year olds so unfortunately I can't wear cute dresses like that to work...well, unless I want little handprints all over them. :)

  17. This is definitely a very work-appropriate outfit! Love that simple but pretty and flattering blue wrap dress and those nude heels (the latter of which I am still looking for, because of how much they flatter legs). I especially love how that shade of blue flatters your enviably perfect skin and bright hair! :)

  18. Oh yes, approachability in your outfit is key when dressing for work. Like you said, you want people to want to talk to you and not feel intimidated. You're outfit does all of this and more
